Boys,
One of the classes I am taking this summer is Literacy Learning as a Social Practice, and the basic premise is that literacy is not learned with recitation and memorization, but instead through everyday social practices. One of our projects is to take part in a social practice, such as blogging, and then reflect on it and how it affected our ideas and conventions of literacy as well as how it fits in with different models we have been discussing. So I decided to create this blog, because part of the idea as teachers is to create interesting and engaging opportunities for students to learn in. Obviously, you are not my students, but I felt that this would be a good experiment and also provide everyone with a forum to keep the team and alumni updated on what you are doing, how summer ball is going, any big plans, etc. and it could also be used as a tool come fall for updates on practices and workouts and what not. So I hope it is something that people can use and get into. Also, please keep the language and subjects somewhat appropriate. Thanks a lot guys and I hope everyone's summer is off to a good start.
